Madrid – Real Madrid will be without Karim Benzema at home to Malaga in La Liga this weekend. French striker suffered a knee problem.
Benzema clash during a match against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday (04/15/2015) then. In those games, he only played for 76 minutes before being replaced by Isco.
In Madrid training session at Valdebebas, Friday (04/17/2015) morning local time, Benzema looked bandaged right knee. 27-year-old striker then left the training session early because complain of pain in his right knee.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Benzema will be absent when Madrid against Malaga at the jornada 32 La Liga on Sunday (04/19/2015) pm dawn. But he indicated that Benzema injury is not severe and the player can perform in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Atletico.
“He was absent for tomorrow’s game, but he can recover for the next game,” Ancelotti told a news conference ahead of the game, Friday (17/04/2015), as quoted by AS.
“We will bring down the best team to defeat a dangerous team who also play well. I’m not going to make any changes to the formation of the team,” said the Italian coach.
“Benzema should be able to play against Atletico,” he added.
Madrid is currently sitting in second place standings with 73 points from 31 matches. The results of last week distanced Madrid with Barcelona that is in the top remaining two points.
