Manchester – Chris Smalling still will be a Manchester United player until 2019. MU confirmed that the 25-year-old defender has signed a contract extension.
Smalling appears to be one of the key players in the Manchester United this season and Louis van Gaal mainstay in defense. This season he has appeared 20 times in the Premier League, 16 of them as a starter.
Smalling is increasingly convincing performances rewarded make a new contract. England international will remain at Old Trafford at least until June 2019.
“Chris has been increased and developed during the brief period I was here and has become an integral part of the first team,” said Louis van Gaal as quoted by the official club website.
“He always behaved very professional and also fun he scored some important goals this season. I’m glad he has signed a new contract,” he added.
Smalling joined United from Fulham in 2010. So far he has appeared 147 times for the ‘Red Devils’ and scored nine goals. One goal of the season against Manchester City printed.
“I’m happy to sign a new contract me. I am very proud to play for such a great club. We’ve built a team this season under Louis van Gaal and we are now playing as a complete entity,” said Smalling.
“This is a very exciting time to be at Manchester United, we are all determined to get back to where we should be and compete at the highest level,” he said.
